Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering

Flynn Devoy

Final-year Master of Mechanical Engineering student at The University of Queensland, focused on aerospace simulation, UAV autonomy, and defensible engineering analysis.

Professional Summary

I'm a final-year Mechanical Engineering (Aerospace) student at The University of Queensland with experience spanning aerospace applications, engineering consulting, and site-based project delivery. I enjoy working on problems where analytical reasoning, computation, and engineering judgement intersect, particularly in spaceflight, hypersonic atmospheric entry, and complex engineering systems.

My work includes both advanced university projects and tools developed in professional engineering environments, with a focus on building clear, defensible solutions to real-world technical problems.

Master's Thesis

UAV Guidance & Alerting Algorithms

Industry Thesis

Industry-based Master's thesis focused on the development and evaluation of guidance and alerting algorithms for autonomous collision avoidance in uncrewed aerial systems.

The thesis is being undertaken at Revolution Aerospace and investigates ACAS-Xu-based approaches for Detect-and-Avoid (DAA) systems supporting safe Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations.

Engineering Projects

Selected technical reports and project pages showing simulation, analysis, software tooling, and engineering judgement across aerospace and mechanical systems.

Space Engineering

Flagship

My strongest technical work to date, covering orbital mechanics, launch vehicle trajectory modelling, interplanetary transfers, and Mars aerocapture analysis developed through advanced university coursework.

This work focuses on physics-based numerical modelling of complex spaceflight problems, including hypersonic atmospheric entry, aerothermal heating, and system-level trade-offs between performance, controllability, and mission risk.

Pump Curve Plotting & System Analysis

Software Tool

A Python-based engineering visualisation and analysis tool developed in a professional engineering environment to support real-world pump system assessment and decision-making.

The tool enables rapid evaluation of pump performance, operating envelopes, parallel and series pump combinations, and system curve interactions for infrastructure projects.
